Ways to Succeed With Redbird PR

Within a week of arriving at ISU, I could tell this was the place that will make my dreams come true. Excitement radiated throughout the campus. It was alive. Everywhere I looked, I could see an opportunity to further my professional development. Here’s a couple things at ISU that I believe makes this university stand apart from the rest:

  1. Internships

The possibilities are endless at ISU with internships. There’s over 250 different internship opportunities in the communication field alone. A lot of those 250 involve some or several aspects of PR. ISU gives you the chance to work with anyone from the Chicago White Sox to the Gamma Phi circus here on campus and everything in between. So many organizations want Redbird interns.

  1. Study Abroad

Studying abroad is a surefire way of standing out to an employer. It shows that you’re interested in culture and are willing to travel while taking your learning to the next level. At ISU, communication students can study abroad in France and receive college credit for it! And if France isn’t your thing, the International Studies Department will work with you to find your perfect niche away from America.

  1. PRSSA

ISU’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter is one of the best in the country. It has won over 20 different awards. By being a member, you can go on agency tours, national conferences, and networking events. The relations, development, and Progressive Image committees provide a role for everyone. There’s even several leadership positions that can strengthen any resume.

I seriously recommend that you get involved in every way you can. There’s plenty of ways and countless organizations not named waiting to be discovered. By taking advantage of these opportunities, you set yourself apart. The more involved you are, the more qualified you can be for your dream job. Good luck!

Day One

Welcome to the start of my blogging journey!

My name is Nicole and I’m 20 years old. I am a junior at Illinois State University this semester. I transferred from Purdue University Calumet (smaller version of Purdue) where I majored in Information Technology for two years. Since transferring from there, I have found my true love of public relations. I finally feel at home in my major and it’s a beautiful thing.

Outside of school, I love to workout, binge-watch Netflix, and shop like a crazy person. I’m addicted to Bath and Body Works candles and I spend a lot of my time pinning on Pinterest. Fun fact: I’ve pinned 1,800 times and counting.

I also take great pride in being a Disney fanatic. I have been since birth.

On this blog, I want to share my ISU PR experience. I would love to spread my love for the PR program to others. Also since I’m a transfer student, I hope to help anyone else going through the process and take some of the scary stress away. Occasionally, maybe there will be a couple of rants or random posts on here but we’ll see.

Now let’s get into business~
